When the stranger Bishop was rescued by the X-Men, their leader Magneto discovered the possibility that the reality they lived in was a fluke. To help discern between fact and fiction, Magento dispatched the Nightcrawler on a mission to retrieve the forseer Destiny at secret refuge Avalon. The allies that the X-Man would gain along the way would band to form X-Calibre.
