After the fall of Apocalypse , Sinister learned how to control Jean Grey and forced her to use her powers to brainwash others to join him as part of his Sinister Six, a group meant to aid him in destroying those who could prevent him from using Jean's power to change the world as he saw fit: Magneto and the X-Men.

In our reality, the Sinister Six was the name used by a group of Spider-Man's most deadly enemies. They would have several incarnations and even become the Sinister Seven and Sinister Twelve at times, but the original Sinister Six was brought together by Dr. Octopus and consisted of Mysterio, the Vulture, Electro, the Sandman, and Kraven the Hunter.
