Moonstar is a mutant with the superhuman psionic power to project three-dimensional images of certain visual concepts derived from within the minds of herself and others, usually either a person's greater fear or desire, that can become tangible entities of psionic force. The three-dimensional images that Moonstar causes to appear are similar to holograms, although they are created by psionic energy rather than by lasers, and can be seen by anyone in their vicinity. However, only the people from whom Moonstar derives the images will perceive them as "real," indistinguishable from the real persons or objects they portray. To other people, they are recognizable as illusions. Moonstar is also able to use her power to generate a psionic bow and arrow which penetrates the mind of her victim and knocks them unconsciousness or dredges up their greatest fear.

Danielle was sent by Apocalypse to spy on the Ghost Dance where she discovered that the X-Man Nightcrawler intended to travel to Antarctica to the refuge known as Avalon was hidden. Apocalypse ordered that Damask take her Pale Riders to locate the hideaway and marked it for annihilation. On the trip over, Danielle attempted to play the disappearing graffiti trick with razors and Dead Man Wade's healing factor, an act that annoyed Damask and prompted her to murder Moonstar.
