Empath is able to psionically alter the emotional state of others.

He was kidnapped and tortured near death by Mikhail Rasputin who attatched to heavy machinery that barely kept him alive while magnifying his power. Mikhail utilized the amplified Empath to sway the humans masses into trusting him when he went to Europe to negotiate peace with the Human High Council.

When Matthew Murdock, Mikhail's Keeper who was charged with overseeing the maintenance of Empath, was brushed by his captive out of chance, he realized that he had been decieved by Mikhail and ended Empath's misery. The passing of Empath freed the humans from their mind control and they revolted.
