Callisto possesses superhumanly keen senses of sight, hearing, smell, taste, and touch. She wears a a patch over her right eye, which is blind and bears a scar on her face.

She intercepted the Infernal Gallop's submarine Excalibur that was carrying a hundred refugees, in addition to Nightcrawler, to Avalon when their air conditioning unit failed and they had to break surface in order to have air movement. Callistro promised the occupants of the submarine safe passage to Avalon by hiding them in the ballast tanks of her ship. However, she and her crew tricked the passengers and dumped them into the Atlantic Ocean. Afterwards, they drifted into the Atrocity Zones and got stuck. Here, Nightcrawler boarded their ship and killed Callisto's crew. Although she was able to catch Nightcrawler by surprise and hold him at gunpoint, she was killed when Mystique showed impeccable timing, showing up just in time to save her son.

In our reality, Callisto was the one time leader of the Morlocks. She abducted Angel to be her consort, but was defeated in single combat by Storm of the X-Men, who became the official leader of the Morlocks, though Callisto continued to act as their leader in Storm's absence. Sometime after the Marauder's massacre of the Morlocks, she and the few remaining members of the Morlocks were thought to have been killed when one of the tunnels they were hiding in was flooded. Unknown to the X-Men who were trying to save them, Mikhail Rasputin opened a portal to another dimension and saved Callisto and a handful of Morlocks. Together, Mikhail and Callisto, now romantically involved, created Gene Nation, a militant terrorist group which sought to punish upworlders back on Earth. Their stay in this dimension did not last long, due largely to the intervention of Storm, and Callisto and Gene Nation returned to Earth.
