Blink possesses the ability to generate teleportation warps, allowing her to displace people and objects. Her effective range is to the moon and back. Blink can manifest the energy for her portals in the form of short javelins, which cause their targets to teleport. She uses this power offensively and defensively. Blink will sometimes imbue small javelins with her teleportation powers and throw them at her targets, teleporting them away.

Clarice Ferguson was born and raised on the island of Cartusia in the Bahamas. Her family came to the United States when she was four years old. Ironically, they did it to help her. She was born with light purple skin; even the markings on her face were there at birth. But to Clarice, there was never anything wrong with her. To any eight-year-old, everyone is different.

She can still remember where she was the night the Horseman known as Sinister came to the city of Miami and started culling its population. Her father tried valiantly, but futiley to fend off the approaching hordes. She saw him die as she peered through a gap between the floor and the door to the cellar. While her mother and brother would suffer untimely demises as well, but Clarice would suffer a different fate from her family members.

Blink would survive only to be imprisoned in Sinister's Breeding Pens, concentrations camp where humans and dissidents were imprisoned. While incarcerated, her mutagenic power manifested itself prompting an interest from the Dark Beast who exposed her to extensive experimentation. To this day, he considers her to be one of his works of art. Also during this time, she would befriend Illyana Rasputin and, during their brief moments of escape, the two would cuddle together for warmth while sleeping. But their release was always short-lived as the Sugar Man would come for them time and again to satisfy his own pleasures. Although Blink loved Illyana deeply, she always prayed that he'd take her first, but he never did.

Blink was slated to be transferred by Abyss to the Pit when she was liberated by Sabreooth during an X-Men raid on the Pens with Weapon X. Elated to be rescued, Blink declared her desire to stand by their side and help liberate both humans and mutants from the tyranny that was the Age of Apocalypse. The normally gruff and vicious Sabretooth took the young girl under his wing and raised her as his own. He showed her a surprising amount of love considering his background as a murderer and member of Apocalypse's Horsemen. He taught her a great many thing, not the least of which was the art of war. He was a very good teacher and she was an excellent pupil. Clarice was initially meant to be a member of Generation Next, but the prowess of her abilities and Sabretooth's strict but fair tutelage would allow Clarice to join the ranks of the X-Men instead.

After some time with the X-Men, Clarice became manically depressed and retreated into herself. She was distraught over the apparent futility of their failing war against Apocalypse who continued on his path to destroy the world. Despite Creed's best efforts and suggestions to soldier through her despair, he was unable to find a way to alleviate her dejection. It would take kind words of reassurance from Morph to bring Blink out of her melancholy. The X-Men believed Apocalypse was vulnerable, hiding out on the moon at the time and only her blinking power could tranport them there. However, all of the X-Men except for Blink were captured by the Horseman Death shortly after their arrival and held aboard Ship.

Blink would find an unlikely ally in the rescue of her teammates when Prelate Scott Summers offered his assistance having discovered Death's ambitions to usurp Apocalypse's power. The two were able to free the X-Men and they all teleported back to the Earth after sabotaging Ship. After that mission, the young mutant gained a great deal of confidence in herself and she devoted her time to preventing other young mutants like herself from being taken by Apocalypse's forces. Blink had become a valuable addition to the X-Men, though her burning adolescent vigor was sometimes not an asset, but a burden for the team.

She began to rebel; ignoring commands, going off on her own instead of fulfilling her duties, and thus jeopardizing the lives of those depending on the X-Men in the process. This was behavior Magneto could not tolerate and he ordered her to fall in line or she would find that she would no longer have a place with the X-Men. Upset by this and wanting to prove that she didn’t need the X-Men, Blink stormed Apocalypse’s Citadel on by herself in order to prove her worth. There she would witness Baluurrians, residents of another dimension known as the Negative Zone, attempting to invade the Earth. Witnessing the other-worldly beings struggle against the Horseman Holocaust, Blink thought the X-Men might be able to forge an alliance with the Baluurrians in order to divide Apocalypse’s forces.

Clarice was discovered lurking in the shadows by Holocaust, but before the Horseman could capture her, she dove into the Baluurrians’ portal back to the Negative Zone. Blink he landed hard and was knocked unconscious. When she came to, she found herself held at gunpoint by a man demanding to know who she was, but she could not answer him as she could not remember anything. The impact of the fall had caused amnesia.

Despite not having any memories of herself, her instincts remained intact and she lashed out at her captor Ahmyor. The battle ended in a stalemate and, once her assailant Ahmyor realized she meant him no harm, the two called a truce and he began to explain to her his situation. He was a rebel fighting to dethrone the Negative Zone's leader, Blastaar, and restore control to their previous ruler, Annihilus, who was also malevolent, but the lesser of two evils in this case. Finding the spirit of rebellion to be a familiar one, Blink joined his cause. Over time, the two fell in love, although Blink questioned whether her feelings were genuine or if she was merely clinging on to him because she had no one else to rely on in this strange world.

Eventually, the couple was captured and taken to Blastaar who revealed that Ahmyor was actually Annihilus. Blink felt betrayed as she believed she had done the honorable thing by aiding in a rebellion, but it appeared that she was only helping a dictator reclaim his empire. Ahmyor explained that he was amnesiac just like Blink was and had no recollection of his former life. When he was removed from power, he regressed to an earlier, humanoid stage in his being. However, his knowledge of the truth caused him to begin reverting back into his insectoid form.

As Ahmyor was being taken away to be executed, Blastaar helped confirm that Ahmyor was speaking the truth and he truly had no inkling of the cruel creature he used to be. This strengthened Blink's resolve and she was determined to rescue Ahmyor. Clarice skillfully escaped from her cell and in an instant her memories returned, either from the rush of adrenaline or her surging emotions.

Blastaar had previously acquired the Annihilation Cannon, a deadly invention made by Annihilus that could not be fired without the Cosmic Control Rod joined to the form of its creator. With Ahmyor/Annihilus now in his clutches, Blastaar finally had the key to active this ultimate weapon and he planned on using it to destroy Earth. Blink arrived to find her beloved bound to the Annihilation Cannon and moved quickly to free him, but discovered that the device had been altered so that it would explode if Annihilus was removed from it. Ahmyor's transformation into Annihilus was nearly complete and he urged her to leave him and the Negative Zone as he was no longer the man she loved.

With tears in her eyes, Blink teleported Ahmyor away, sent the Annihilation Cannon to Blastaar's position, and teleported herself back home where the X-Men had been frantically searching for her. Blink poured her heart out to Sabretooth and told him all about her escapade in the Negative Zone and how she fell in love with a conflicted warrior. Sabretooth helped console Blink by telling her that fate brought them together and now it broke them apart, but fate could change how she felt and nothing is diminished because it ends.

Upon her return, Blink rejoined the X-Men, accepted her place on the team, and they grew to become like her family. She abided by Mangeto's rules and would even become a constant companion and babysitter for his son Charles Lensherr. On one reconnaissance mission alongside her fellow X-Man, Sunfire, Blink discovered an upcoming culling that would take place in Chicago. However, they found themselves outmanned and, being in a losing a fight against Apocalypse's forces, Blink did the only thing she could. She teleported the two of them directly to the X-Men's secret base of operations. In the process of doing so, she inadvertantly revealed that the X-Men had been dwelling in Westchester when Delgado, one of Apocalypse's minions, followed them through her portal.

When a group of X-Men left to stop the cullings in Chicago, Blink joined them along with her father figure and mentor Sabretooth. Knowing that Holocaust would be hot on their tails, Sabretooth had Blink teleport him and Wild Child to Holocaust's location in order to buy the rest of the troops more time in evacuating the humans of the city. After helping to evacuate Chicago, Wild Child returned with Holocaust's location and the team traveled to Indianapolis where Blink discovered the beaten body of Sabretooth. He survived his battle with Holocaust, but Blink was enraged. She faced off against Holocaust and teleported him into a vat of acid. With the culling in Chicago averted and Holocaust apparently defeated. Blink teleported the team back to Westchester where she learned that all of Generation Next had perished on a recent mission. Clarice was distraught with grief and she couldn't help feeling guilty as she felt she things would have turned out differently had she been with them.

The team also discovered that Magneto and his son had been taken by Apocalypse and his forces. Blink teleported the regrouped X-Men directly into the heart of Apocalypse's Kingdom for their final battle against Apocalypse. It appeared the X-Men were going to win, but would die in the subsequent nuclear missile strike launched by the humans in Europe. As the nuclear warheads sent by the Human High Council began to rain down on the stronghold, Blink became unhinged from time and her adventures would continue alongside the Exiles.

In our reality, Clarice found herself awake in a pool of blood after her powers first manifested. She vowed never again to use her powers against a living being, a vow that would be broken when the Phalanx entity known as Harvest arrived to torment Clarice and her fellow captive mutants. She employed her powers to precisely remove a chunk of deck under her friends, causing them to fall into the water below and thus saving their lives. She then displaced the entire battleship on which they were being held captive, including Harvest and herself. It is presumed Clarice died during this act.
